We present tilt angle study of a homogeneously aligned liquid crystal compound 4-n-octyloxyphenyl-4-n-pentylthiobenzoate (8S5), sandwiched between two surface treated glass slides, as a function of temperature in the nematic phase. Measurement of tilt angle has been made using optical transmission using a a low power helium-neon laser. Our measurements suggest some kind of structural transition in this material.
