New banana-shaped achiral azo benzene based liquid crystal moiety was synthesized and it's thermal & electrical characterization were reported. The synthetic route of the compound, DSC data and the respective enthalpies of various transitions were reported along with the various optical textures obtained through thermal microscopy. The electrical switching of the compound was discussed in the light of the chemical structural backbone of the mesogen. The DSC results were found to be in good agreement with thermal microscopic studies. Further more the spontaneous polarization and response time of the title compound were correlated.
